Government keen on proposed Competition Bill
Commerce & Economic Development secretary stressec that the bill will be instrumental in protecting SME’s right to compete in the market.
Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Gregory So says the proposed Competition Bill will bring advantages to consumers and avoid the abuse of a substantial degree of market power in a market.
Speaking during a live question-and-answer session on the Chief Executive’s Office Facebook page Upper Albert Road on Tuesday, Mr So said the proposed bill will allow consumers to choose products of better quality, more reasonable price and better design, or more advanced technology.
He said the bill is not aimed to intervene in the market structure but to avoid the abuse of a substantial degree of market power in a market.
It will also avoid anti-competition behaviours, he said, adding the bill will help protect small- and medium-enterprises’ right to compete in the market.
