Sun Life Hong Kong Limited wins at Hong Kong Business Technology Excellence Awards 2026

Insights informed the development of a digital health solution that helps address rising healthcare costs for Clients.

Sun Life Hong Kong Limited won Analytics - Insurance in the Hong Kong Business Technology Excellence Awards 2026. The company leveraged data analytics to identify Client concerns surrounding rising healthcare expenses, specifically for outpatient and preventive care. These important insights shaped the features, pricing, target segments, and market strategy for its SunPlus project, which includes SunPass digital health access.

By analysing behavioural data, lifestyle preferences, retirement preparedness insights, and health service usage patterns, the team identified real needs in the market. The resulting proposition addressed healthcare cost anxiety through accessible pricing, broad medical service discounts, and advisor support.

Data analytics validated Client requirements and defined the product scope beyond conventional retirement and wealth protection assumptions.

The analytics framework operated across the complete Client process, from initial project development and pilot validation to acquisition, engagement, and post-sales optimisation. Pilot data refined the focus on target segments, whilst lifestyle preference data enabled relevant wellness offerings. These efforts reached groups such as civil servants, self-employed individuals, small business employees, freelancers, and the sandwich class.

This project delivered significant engagement, acquiring 16,900 Clients in 2025 whilst maintaining a 90% customer satisfaction rating. It also generated over 6,000 visits to the digital health platform and contributed to growth in upsell sales.
