JobsDB wins AI - Human Resources Consulting Award at HKB Technology Excellence Awards 2022

The “Smarter Search” AI function matches user behaviours to deliver job advertisements relevant to users’ preferences.

JobsDB Hong Kong (“JobsDB”) was honoured with the AI – Human Resources Consulting Award by the Hong Kong Business Technology Excellence Awards 2022.

The prestigious awards programme honours outstanding companies that have made exceptional contributions to technological innovations in Hong Kong.

Before online job portals were available, job seekers had to endure printed advertisements and send out snail mail with stamps for job applications. Fortunately, technological improvements have allowed for a more efficient application process for both job seekers and recruiters.

Being Hong Kong’s leading employment platform and a subsidiary of SEEK, and the world’s largest online job marketplace, JobsDB is committed to helping people live more fulfilling and productive working lives and to help organisations succeed. The platform advocates itself as a world-class product through ongoing technological investments.

Being a consumer-centric platform provider, JobsDB has developed one of the most bespoke job search and recommendation engines in order to deliver job search results with higher relevance, higher speed, and higher matching accuracy.

“With so many job options from different industries and job levels on the internet, we tackle users’ pain points with our smarter search engine, matching user behaviours to deliver job advertisements relevant to users’ preferences. It is timesaving because we streamline the whole process and help to place the ads in a more personalised and structuralised order,” said Bill Lee, Managing Director of JobsDB Hong Kong.

“Smarter Search” uses the latest machine learning techniques and human-in-the-loop curation to deliver highly relevant, localised and personalised search results to job seekers in HK. These results are powered by comprehensive lists local role titles and company ontologies such as tens of thousands of concepts, and thousands of keyword models. The models are trained on millions of job seekers’ behavioural events.

“It can also help to remove potential signals of human bias in selection decisions from datasets and predictions. For example, in the past when a job seeker searches “kindergarten teacher”, the result page may show the exact same job ad title only. And it might have limited the job choices and reduced the chance for job seekers to explore the better match. But our AI would enable our platform to surface similar roles where titles vary such as “early childhood teacher”, he continued.

This technological advancement has successfully been translated into business impacts with seamless predictions of and solutions to consumer needs. Smarter Search was a major contributor to a 20 percent increase in job applications per candidate session, together with improved user stickiness.

This ever-evolving innovation from JobsDB, which improves the recruitment experience for all stakeholders and eliminates unnecessary processes for shorter waiting time, has been recognised by the HKB Technology Excellence Awards.
