HSBC clinches HKB Technology Excellence Awards 2024 for travel rewards membership programme

This initiative has leveraged analytics to elevate customer experience for travel enthusiasts.

Travel Guru, the trailblazing travel rewards membership programme of HSBC, has been lauded for its win in the Analytics - Financial Services category at the coveted HKB Technology Excellence Awards 2024, highlighting its success in leveraging analytics to elevate customers’ travel experience.

Launched in September 2023 on the HSBC HK Reward+ App, Travel Guru offers unparalleled travel-related rewards and privileges for travel lovers. It is powered by data analytics to deliver timely, personalised content via event-triggered messaging throughout the travel lifecycle.

For example, when customers have completed a hotel or airline transaction, the system is going to automatically send tailored travel deals via push notification – a useful reference for customers in their travel planning.

This capability ensures that customers are going to receive the most relevant content for their specific travel needs, whether it be offer recommendations, overseas travel tips, or the availability of credit card limit.

At the same time, customers are provided with real-time updates on their tier status with the support of data analytics and open application programming interfaces, providing members with a hyper-transparent tracking of their credit card usage for different tier rewards.

Aside from the state-of-the-art technology and comprehensive analytics, the Travel Guru membership experience is also underpinned by HSBC’s extensive merchant partnerships, which provide a wide array of exclusive travel-related offers and privileges.

HSBC has built a vibrant community with this initiative by onboarding over 260,000 members. This rapid increase of members has also contributed to a substantial increase in HSBC credit card spending, validating the strategic use of technology and data analytics.

The membership programme has also exemplified the company’s successful customer engagement programme, wherein customers are informed about how to take full advantage of its rewards programme through their overseas travel spending.

“Travel Guru is a prime example of leveraging cutting-edge technology and analytics to elevate customer experience and drive successful business outcomes. Our dedication to innovation sets us apart from other candidates,” it said.
