DBS Hong Kong lauded at Hong Kong Business Technology Excellence Awards 2025 with two accolades

Under the leadership of Jolynn Wong, DBS Hong Kong redefines digital banking, empowering businesses through AI-driven innovation and the award-winning DBS IDEAL mobile banking app.

The leading financial services group in Asia, DBS Hong Kong landed two major wins at the prestigious Hong Kong Business Technology Excellence Awards 2025 for its success in addressing the evolving needs of small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) with its bold, customer-centric strategy that leverages the power of cutting-edge technologies.

At the core of DBS Hong Kong's approach lies a steadfast commitment to utilising technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to elevate its service offerings and set new standards in efficiency, customer experience, and technological integration.

Amongst its innovative digital solutions, DBS Hong Kong has been at the forefront of adopting electronic identity document verification (eIDV). By harnessing the power of AI and technology advancement, the bank has effectively streamlined the account opening process for Hong Kong incorporated entities to as fast as one working day* for Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card holders with a fully digital and secure onboarding process. This has resulted in a near-half uplift of customers acquired digitally through this innovative solution.

DBS Hong Kong has also made significant strides in SME lending with its digital lending platform offering fast-track financing and seamless application processes. The seamless online application process that integrates with a smarter credit risk assessment model powered by alternative trade data has reduced the time-to-cash by double-digit, whilst achieving an over 30% YoY increase in the total limit of approved applications.

The impact of DBS Hong Kong’s digital innovations is evident in its financial performance. The bank has achieved a staggering 70% growth in AI-driven revenue in 2024 – a strong testament to the success of its intelligent, seamless banking solutions. Moreover, DBS Hong Kong continues to stand out across a range of key metrics, from customer satisfaction to digital product offerings.

“At DBS Hong Kong, we deploy AI-powered, mobile-first solutions that solve business pain points— from seamless digital account opening to smart liquidity management. These innovations not only set new industry benchmarks for security and digital banking experience, but also powered a standout 70% surge in AI-driven revenue in 2024, validating our leadership in AI and mobile banking,” Jolynn Wong, Managing Director and Head of Global Transaction Services at DBS Hong Kong said.

DBS Hong Kong received the AI - Banking category win in the awards programme for its extensive digital capabilities.

Meanwhile, the bank also won the Mobile - Banking category for its mobile banking app DBS IDEAL, which has delivered a seamless, feature-rich experience that empowers SMEs to manage their banking needs.

DBS IDEAL provides an industry-leading mobile onboarding process that leverages advanced technologies such as eIDV. Together with a suite of advanced digital banking solutions, the app enables SMEs to access banking services and manage their day-to-day transactions anytime and anywhere.

From seamless FX rate lock-in capabilities to enhanced merchant sale management, the app equips SMEs with tools that enable business growth in today’s digital era. In 2024, DBS Hong Kong witnessed an impressive 80% growth in digital transaction volume, underscoring the strong demand for these innovative features.

Recognising the importance of security in the digital landscape, the bank has also integrated advanced fraud detection and threat management capabilities into DBS IDEAL. Powered by ML and real-time integration with government databases, the app safeguards the financial wellbeing of customers with instant alerts to suspicious activities.

Through the DBS IDEAL app, the bank continues to redefine the future of SME banking, empowering businesses to thrive in today’s digital age.

“As the market’s leading transaction bank, we harness AI to transform both front-end experience and automate back-end processes, creating tailored, future-ready solutions that optimize workflows, empower resilience, and drive operational excellence for our clients,” Jolynn Wong said.
