BOC Life redefines wellness with Live Young Rewards App

The app promotes healthy living and social interactions amongst users, as well as their families and friends.

Life insurance firm BOC Life has received a major accolade at the HKB Technology Excellence Awards 2024 for successfully and seamlessly blending health monitoring, rewards, and gamification through its Live Young Rewards App (the App).

Unlike traditional wellness apps, the Live Young Rewards App introduced the Biological Age Model (BAM) algorithm, which provides users with a clear biological age indicator through the use of five health metrics — steps, active calories, BMI, resting heart rate, and sleep hours. BAM is actuarially endorsed and delivers significant value, backed by the proprietary mortality and morbidity research of leading reinsurer SCOR.

The algorithm clearly illustrates the impact of healthy behaviours on the customers’ biological age compared to their actual age. For reinsurers, it offers a continuous risk assessment that paves the way to use real‐time wearable data for dynamic underwriting.

In addition to health tracking, the App creates an engaging and sustainable user experience by rewarding users for their wellness activities. BOC Life’s strategic partnerships with wellness providers such as Garmin, EC Healthcare, and PURE Fitness, as well as a digital partnership with the comprehensive voucher redemption solutions platform On-Us, enable the company to efficiently offer a great variety of products and services from a wide network of merchants to users.

These social and interactive features allow users to engage with friends, family members, and like-minded individuals, strengthening interpersonal connections and reinforcing the belief that wellness is a “shared journey.” Users who engage with the App’s social elements redeem health-related rewards twice as often.

Designed with a forward-thinking approach, the Live Young Rewards App is poised for future enhancements and growth. The integration of gamification and social features ensures the App remains relevant amidst evolving digital trends and user preferences.

Its ability to seamlessly incorporate new partners also allows it to refine and improve the App dynamically.

The Live Young Rewards App has attracted over 100,000 registered users and has facilitated the issuance of over 3,000 new insurance policies since its launch, marking a significant contribution to BOC Life’s business success. In addition, the App users have made over 12,000 donations to 12 charitable organisations.

With this innovation, BOC Life took home the win in the App - Life Insurance category at the awards programme. “This success underscores our App's ability to engage and resonate with users whilst driving tangible health and business outcomes,” the company said.
