QBE Hong Kong brings home two wins at the HKB Management Excellence Awards 2021

Hong Kong has a humid subtropical climate and regularly has to cope with extreme weather, both typhoons and monsoon rains. The damage caused by these events can be expensive and stressful. A typical insurance claim for water damage in Hong Kong is HK$39,000 on average, not to mention the inconvenience for homeowners including displacement if the repairs are extensive. In order to help their customers before, during and after any accident, QBE introduced an end-to-end value-added solution.
QBE’s home insurance solution is fully digitalised, allowing customers to get instant and personalised quotations, buy, renew, and claim online; and manage their policies online if they choose to. For customers that prefer assistance when purchasing home insurance, they can also approach QBE’s agents and insurance brokers.
QBE’s Home Plus Protection package provides comprehensive coverage for home contents, pets and temporary accommodation due to unforeseen circumstances. Policyholders can access an online customer portal called eService to view or download their policy information, get home protection tips and submit claims anytime, anywhere.
For customers that do need to claim, QBE provides a one-stop digital claims platform where customers are automatically connected and matched to a network of adjusters and panel home contractors based on the nature of their home damage.
To help customers catch avoidable accidents or minimise their impact, QBE Hong Kong has partnered with Kangaroo, a leading smart home security startup, to develop an innovative smart home solution using a home sensor kit to monitor the temperature, humidity and water leakage in policyholders’ homes around the clock. When the sensor registers extreme readings, the homeowner receives an instant notification via their mobile phone. Early actions can then be taken to prevent and reduce losses to a minimum, thereby ensuring a comfortable and safe home.
QBE Hong Kong has collaborated with QBE Ventures (the venture investment and development arm of QBE in Australia) and Kangaroo (a leading smart home security startup in the United States) to bring this innovative solution to Hong Kong. The teams worked tirelessly across different time zones and geographies to identify customer challenges and successfully design the smart home insurance solution, which is the first of its kind in Asia.
This feat has led to QBE Hong Kong being recognised and winning the Innovator of the Year - General Insurance and the Team of the Year - General Insurance awards at the HKB Management Excellence Awards 2021.
