HK Express named fastest growing airline in 2024

Its number of flights grew nearly 50%.

HK Express has been crowned as the fastest growing airline of 2024, according to global travel data provider OAG.

In a statement, OAG said HK Express, a subsidiary of Cathay Pacific, expanded its operations in 2024, increasing its flight count by 46% to 35,015 from 23,940 in the previous year. This growth was driven by network expansion and fleet additions.

It also named the Shanghai Pudong International Airport as the fastest growing airport year-on-year, with an increase of almost 10 million seats to over 47 million.

OAG said airline seat capacity reached 19,278,320 on 2 August last year, making it the busiest day of the year for air travel, and surpassing 2023's record by just over 692,000 seats. Meanwhile, the quietest day was on 28 November with 14,871,278 seats scheduled by airlines.
