HK Express expands Mainland China network with new Wuxi route

Wuxi becomes the airline’s sixth mainland China destination.

HK Express has launched a new daily direct route between Hong Kong and Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, expanding its Chinese Mainland network to six destinations.

The new service connects Hong Kong International Airport with Wuxi Shuofang Airport (WUX), with flights taking around 2.5 hours.

The route strengthens connectivity between Hong Kong and the Yangtze River Delta region, providing more travel options for business, leisure, and family travellers.

Flights from Hong Kong depart in the afternoon and arrive in Wuxi in the early evening, whilst return flights leave Wuxi at night.

Through its codeshare partnership with Cathay Pacific, HK Express said passengers from Wuxi and southern Jiangsu Province can connect via Hong Kong to destinations across Asia and beyond.

Located beside Lake Tai, Wuxi is known for its Jiangnan cultural heritage, scenic landscapes, and modern industries. Key attractions include Yuantouzhu, the Lingshan Grand Buddha, Huishan Ancient Town, and the Qingming Bridge Historical and Cultural Block.

HK Express CEO Jeanette Mao said the new route supports the airline’s expansion in mainland China and provides travellers with more convenient and affordable travel options between Hong Kong, Wuxi, and Eastern China.

“Playing an important role in the Cathay Group’s dual-brand strategy, HK Express will continue to leverage Hong Kong’s strength as an international aviation hub, further enhancing connectivity between the Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong and global markets whilst offering travellers more choices to fly on their own terms,” he said.

The inaugural flight was marked by a ceremony at Hong Kong International Airport, featuring an erhu performance by huqin virtuoso Xu Hui from the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra. The performance highlighted Wuxi’s cultural connection as the “Hometown of the Erhu”.

The arriving flight at Wuxi Shuofang Airport was welcomed with a traditional water salute and a local reception.
