HK Chief Exec concerned over Cathay Pacific flight cancellations

The Transport & Logistics Bureau will be in contact with the airlines’ management, CE John Lee said.

Hong Kong’s head of government has expressed concern over Cathay Pacific’s flight cancellations.

Responding to media enquiries ahead of the Executive Council meeting on 9 January, Chief Executive John Lee said that the government will contact people from Cathay Pacific and the local aviation industry to ensure that the aviation capacity is rebuilt as quickly as possible.

“The Transport & Logistics Bureau will be in contact with the management of Cathay Pacific to indicate our goals and see how we can work together to ensure the best services are provided to passengers,” Lee was quoted saying.

Cathay Pacific had recently decided to cancel some of its flights daily until early February.

Lee cited ongoing challenges that the aviation industry faces as a result of disruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“As regards Cathay Pacific cancelling flights over a short period of time, causing inconvenience and also loss to some passengers, of course, we are very concerned,” Lee stated.

“So, we will be in contact with the people in the aviation industry, particularly Cathay Pacific, to ensure that the aviation capacity is rebuilt as quickly as possible,” he later added.
