CLP Power addresses recent power outage in New Territories

Voltage dips and power interruptions have been reported.

The Electrical & Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) has requested CLP Power Hong Kong to submit a detailed report on the power outage on 1 January 2024.

The outage spanned across areas of Tsuen Wan, Kwai Chung, and Tsing Yi at around 3:31 pm.

According to CLP, a fault occurred in its Ngi Ying Chau Street Substation which prompted the automatic protection system to immediately isolate the faulty part.

This led to short voltage dips and has caused electrical installations sensitive to voltage changes such as elevators to stop operations.

EMSD has monitored the progress of repair work and will continue to communicate with CLP Power to urge the company to take appropriate follow-up and improvement measures.
