Redeveloped Huanggang Port opens with capacity for 200,000 daily trips
A new clearance arrangement will reduce processing times to five minutes.
The redeveloped Huanggang Port, a 24-hour boundary crossing between Hong Kong and Shenzhen, opened on 12 October with a design capacity of 200,000 passenger trips per day.
The government said its capacity could increase to approximately 300,000 passenger trips following the commissioning of MTR Corporation's Northern Link Spur Line.
The facility is the first land boundary control point between the two cities to adopt the ‘collaborative inspection and joint clearance' arrangement, reducing passenger clearance times from around 30 minutes at the original Lok Ma Chau/Huanggang Port to five minutes.
The port also operates under a co-location arrangement, with clearly delineated Hong Kong and Mainland port areas.
Chief Executive John Lee officiated at the opening ceremony on 11 October at the Huanggang Port Mainland Port Area.
Lee said the opening reflected closer connectivity within the Greater Bay Area, including hard connectivity in infrastructure and soft connectivity in rules and mechanisms.
The redevelopment is also aligned with Hong Kong's First Five-Year Plan, which identifies the port's co-location arrangement and joint-clearance mechanism as measures to strengthen cross-boundary connectivity.
