Quota for private cars crossing Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao bridge raised

Up to 500 private cars can now cross the bridge per month.

The Guangdong and Hong Kong governments announced the quota for private cars crossing the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge will be raised to a maximum of 500 per month.

According to the Transport Department, aa regular quota of 19,500 was issued for Hong Kong cross-boundary private cars in four phases when the bridge was commissioned in 2018. 

The new quotas will now be implemented on a trial basis for 12 months.

The Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department is now accepting new applications. Upon approval, applicants will need to apply for closed road permits from the Transport Department’s Cross Boundary Unit. 

Applicants will then need to complete all the formalities in both the Mainland and Hong Kong before they can drive across the boundary. 

“They are reminded to ensure compliance with the Mainland's prevailing entry controls and anti-epidemic measures before going to the Mainland,” the Transport Department said.

Moreover, the two governments have also agreed to increase the quota for Mainland cross-boundary private cars using the bridge by a maximum of 50 per month. This will likewise be on a trial basis for 12 months tentatively.
