Launch of HKeToll in Tsing Sha Control Area deferred

HKeToll was supposed to begin operations on 26 February.

The Transport Department deferred the launch of the free-flow tolling service, HKeToll, in the Tsing Sha Control Area to 5 am on May 7 from February 26.

The department said it postponed HKeToll’s launch to roll out a series of measures to help the public apply for the service more easily, including setting up more than 20 consultation counters across the city 

The consultation counters will assist vehicle owners in applying for a vehicle tag, opening an HKeToll account, associating a vehicle to an account, setting up an auto-payment means and updating e-contact means. The counters will begin services this month.

Concerning the taxi trade, the department will set up additional dedicated service points to handle relevant HKeToll applications to expedite the processing time.

It will also continue to provide a one-stop service for applying for vehicle tags and driver cards and teach the industry how to use the HKeToll service via outreach services.

As of noon on 13 February, more than 430,000 vehicle tags were issued, including about 240,000 applications that were submitted earlier during licence renewals.

“As some vehicle owners had forgotten the e-contact means they had registered with the department and failed to register for the HKeToll service, letters will be issued to 800,000 vehicle owners in Hong Kong starting this Friday to inform them of their registered e-contact means,” the government said.

“Those who have not yet applied for the HKeToll service may consider making an application after receiving the letter so that they can obtain a one-time password through the e-contact means concerned for completing the application,” the government added.
