Gov’t mandates new child safety rule in private cars
The rule will be effective from 1 November.
Starting 1 November, the Transport Department will require children under eight traveling in private cars to use a child restraining device (CRD).
Failure to comply may result in a $230 fixed penalty or a $2,000 fine for serious cases.
The new rule requires the use of CRD irrespective of whether they are sitting in the front or rear seats unless they are 1.35 metres or taller.
Meanwhile, passengers aged 8 or above, or who are at least 1.35m in height, must either use a CRD or wear an adult seat belt.
