
Alaina Shum to lead Consumer Council
The former VTC Deputy Executive Director will assume office on 21 August.
Alaina Shum has been appointed chief of the Consumer Council, said the Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Algernon Yau, following an open recruitment and selection process.
Shum will start her new position from 21 August as the chief of this independent statutory authority which protects consumers’ rights on goods and services consumption in Hong Kong.
Shum is currently the Deputy Executive Director for Vocational Training Council (VTC), the largest vocational training provider locally, she will be succeeding Gilly Wong Fung-han, who led the Consumer Council for 13 years.
“Due to her extensive management experience in public organisations, Ms. Shum is well placed to lead the council,” said Yau, “it will continue to enhance the protection of consumer rights and interests.”
