Gov’t addresses food waste recycling bin disruption

The government requested an incident report within seven days to prevent recurrence.

The Environmental Protection Department reported a partial server failure of the food waste smart recycling platform, resulting in temporary disruptions to some food waste smart recycling bins (FWSRBs) in public rental and private housing.

The department discovered the incident on 23 June at 12:30 pm.

The department instructed the contractor to switch to a backup server, and service resumed at 2:22 pm.

It also instructed PRH estates and private housing management to place traditional food waste bins next to the FWSRBs during the server failure.

In addition, the department requested a contractor incident report within seven days to prevent recurrence.

It also thanked residents for participating in food waste recycling and apologised to those affected.
