Buildings Department to probe problematic property issue

Removal and dismantling works will be completed ASAP.

According to a release, Chief Executive CY Leung has asked authorised persons to contact the Buildings Department to arrange a meeting to follow up on the problematic structures at his home on The Peak.

In a written statement, he said that the authorised persons will co-operate fully with the department and complete the remaining removal and dismantling works as soon as possible, according to the department's instructions.

He said he made the request last week at the same time he issued a statement on his property.

He reiterated today that after purchasing his home, he had taken the initiative to submit applications to, and had obtained approval from, the department for additional buildings and alteration works.

He said he has been handling the matter in an open, transparent and serious manner since the building works issue was reported in June. He said he has provided full and timely co-operation to the department in its conducting of inspections, without any delay or obstruction.

He also made arrangements for the media to visit his property, and has responded to press enquiries in person.

Mr Leung said he appointed a professional team to help solve the problems, and deal immediately with structures alleged to be unauthorised building works.

He said he will continue to co-operate with government departments in taking actions to rectify problems as soon as practicable.

Mr Leung said he has replied to the written press enquiries he has received since Friday. He said he is happy to elaborate on them if the responses are unclear.

He said when he released his statement on Friday, he had also asked the authorised persons to arrange a meeting with the department today. The department today called his authorised persons, hoping for a site inspection which was arranged this afternoon.

Mr Leung reiterated that he has strictly complied with Hong Kong’s building ordinances and taken immediate action to deal with the works in question. He said he will formulate a solution with the department in the coming days, to deal with issues yet to be resolved.
