Unemployment rate stays at 3.5% in April-June
Underemployment rate is also unchanged at 1.4% within the period.
Hong Kong’s unemployment rate stood at 3.5% in April to June 2025, unchanged from the March to May period, according to the latest labour force statistics released by the Census and Statistics Department.
The underemployment rate is also unchanged at 1.4% within the same period.
Total employment fell by 7,400 to 3.65 million in April to June. Over the same period, the labour force also decreased by 7,000 to 3.7 million.
The number of unemployed people was at 136,200, and the number of underemployed workers decreased to 52,600.
Chris Sun, the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, said, "While the unemployment and underemployment rates in April to June 2025 remained the same as those of the preceding three-month period, various industries in Hong Kong are undergoing transition and their respective unemployment rates have different trends."
Looking ahead, he said, "The trend of unemployment rate will hinge on the overall economic performance. The entry of fresh graduates and school leavers during the summer may impact the overall employment situation. Nevertheless, the continued expansion of the Hong Kong economy should provide support to the labour market."
