Unemployment rate rises in Q3
Total employment stood at 3.67 million, down 6,100 from Q2.
Hong Kong’s unemployment rate increased to 3.9% in the third quarter from 3.7% in the previous quarter, according to the Census & Statistics Department.
Total employment stood at 3.67 million, down 6,100 from Q2, whilst the labour force also decreased to 3.83 million.
Meanwhile, the underemployment rate remained at 1.6%.
Labour Secretary Chris Sun noted that Hong Kong's economy should continue to expand and create jobs.
However, he warned that economic restructuring will challenge employment in some sectors, and rising global uncertainty could also make companies hesitant to hire.
