Paradip Port posts $204.6m provisional surplus on record 150.41 MMT cargo

Its expansion plan targets capacity beyond 500 MTPA.

Paradip Port Authority (PPA) handled a record 150.41-million-metric-tonne (MMT) cargo in fiscal year 2024 to 2025 and recorded a provisional net surplus of $204.6m (₹1,860 crore), according to a press release.

The port operates with a rated capacity of 289 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) and maintains the lowest vessel and cargo charges among major ports.

Smt. Anu Garg, IAS, Hon’ble Chief Secretary, Government of Odisha outlined the “Paradip Port 2.0” vision, which includes expanding capacity beyond 500 MTPA, deepening the Western Dock, and developing a dedicated green hydrogen berth.

Discussions also covered the proposed 150 MTPA Bahuda Port in Ganjam district and a 1.2 million GT capacity shipbuilding and ship repair cluster north of the Mahanadi in Kendrapara district, to be developed through a Special Purpose Vehicle between the Government of Odisha and Paradip Port Authority.

The chief secretary also outlined Odisha’s economic roadmap targeting $500b by 2036 and $1.5t by 2047, with emphasis on exports, shipbuilding and port-led development.
