Mortgage applications fall 8.3% in August

Mortgage applications in Hong Kong fell 8.3% month-on-month to 8,446 in August 2026, according to the Hong Kong Monetary Authority.
Mortgage loans approved also fell 28.2% to $32.2b. Loans for primary market transactions dropped 31.8% to $9.1b, whilst those for secondary market transactions fell 36.7% to $15.3b. Refinancing loans rose 6.8% to $7.8b.
Mortgage loans drawn down increased 11.6% to $32.8b.
The share of new mortgage loans priced against HIBOR fell to 57% from 61%, whilst those priced against best lending rates rose to 1.9% from 1.3%.
Outstanding mortgage loans increased 0.6% to $1,975.4b at end-August.
The mortgage delinquency ratio stood at 0.11%, whilst the rescheduled loan ratio remained near zero.
