HSBC completes three IP-backed loans under sandbox programme
HSBC worked with the companies to leverage their IP assets to secure loans.
HSBC has completed three pilot credit approval cases under Hong Kong’s Intellectual Property (IP) Financing Sandbox.
HSBC worked with Hang Bo Industrial Company, Man Yue Technology Holdings, and Shing Hing Plastic Manufacturing to leverage their IP assets to get corporate loans.
IP financing helps businesses access capital they need to invest, commercialise, and scale if they are light on physical collateral but “rich” in creative and technological assets, said Anita Ou, managing director, head of enterprise banking, commercial banking, Hong Kong at HSBC.
Ou said that HSBC has the expertise to understand the commercial realities behind different types of IP—from patents to proprietary technologies to brands—to structure financing solutions for their clients.
