Hong Kong Q4 port cargo hits 44.8m tonnes
Containers fall 5.6% as outward cargo jumps.
Hong Kong port cargo throughput rose 1.1% YoY to 44.8m tonnes in the fourth quarter of 2025.
Inward cargo fell 6.0% to 25.6m tonnes, whilst outward cargo rose 12.3% to 19.2m tonnes.
On a seasonally adjusted quarter-on-quarter basis, total port cargo throughput increased 9.9%, with seaborne cargo down 7.4% to 25.8m tonnes and river cargo up 15.4% to 19.1m tonnes.
Container throughput fell 5.6% YoY to 3.32m twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in the quarter, with laden containers down 6.2% to 2.62m TEUs and empty containers down 3.3% to 0.70m TEUs. Full-year container throughput slipped 5.1% to 12.99m TEUs in 2025.
Ocean vessel arrivals rose 2.1% to 4,870 in the quarter, though total capacity fell 2.4% to 74.6m net tons, whilst river vessel arrivals edged down 0.2% to 20,643 and capacity rose 9.3% to 25.6m net tons.
