HK, Mainland ink MoU on tropical agriculture cooperation

The agreement also establishes mechanisms for talent exchange and innovation.

The Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department (AFCD) and the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences (CATAS) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in tropical agriculture.

The agreement was signed by AFCD Director Mickey Lai and CATAS Vice President Cui Pengwei, with Secretary for Environment & Ecology Tse Chin-wan witnessing the ceremony.

Under the MoU, Hong Kong will leverage CATAS’ expertise to modernise local agricultural industries, improve efficiency and enhance product quality. The agreement also sets up mechanisms for communication, talent exchanges and joint innovation.

Tse said the collaboration would advance modern agriculture through technology and innovation, and support sustainable development in both Hong Kong and the Mainland.
