Health Bureau denies rumors of approval for third medical school

Final recommendation is expected later this year.

The Health Bureau has dismissed online rumors that a local university has been approved to establish a third medical school.

The bureau said that the Task Group on New Medical School received proposals in March from the Baptist University, the Polytechnic University, and the University of Science & Technology.

After reviewing the proposals in meetings, including an overall assessment on July 31, the task group is now studying funding and financial sustainability.

A final recommendation on the establishment of a new medical school is expected to be submitted to the government later this year, the bureau said.
