HKEX CEO retires, new leadership will take over next year

CEO Alejandro Nicolas Aguzin will be replaced by Bonnie Chan Yiting beginning 24 May 2024.

The current Chief Executive Officer of the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX), Alejandro Nicolas Aguzin, will not be seeking reappointment after his contract ends in May 2024. 

Aguzin will be replaced by Bonnie Chan Yiting beginning 24 May 2024. Her term will run for three years. 

With over 30 years of experience in legal and financial services, her previous roles include Head of Listing at HKEX and partner at Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP. Her appointment has been approved by the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC).

Also effective from 24 May 2024, Wilfred Yiu Ka Yan, who has over 25 years experience in international capital markets, will take on the role of Deputy Chief Executive whilst continuing as the Co-Chief Operating Officer. 

His past experience includes roles at Beijing Gao Hua Securities Company Limited and Goldman Sachs.

Vanessa Lau Bik Yun, currently the Group Chief Financial Officer of HKEX, will also become the Co-Chief Operating Officer on 24 May 2024. 

She brings over 25 years of experience in the financial services industry, with previous positions at Sanford C. Bernstein, Alcoa Inc., McKinsey & Company, and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
