Hang Seng Indexes, Cyberport develop AI-powered index design tool
The solution is expected to improve data processing efficiency by up to five times.
Hang Seng Indexes Company and Cyberport have collaborated with technology firm INF to develop a generative artificial intelligence (AI)-powered solution for thematic index design.
The solution covers the entire index design process, from analysing listed companies and selecting constituents to recommending constituent weightings.
The platform uses computing power from Cyberport's AI Supercomputing Centre.
The tool is expected to improve the efficiency of identifying listed companies and processing relevant data by up to five times, Hang Seng and Cyberport said in a joint statement on 2 November.
In addition, Hang Seng said it will also explore collaborations with product issuers to develop investment products linked to thematic indexes.
The solution was developed under the ThemeFinder Challenge, which was launched in June as part of the Index Innovation Lab.
The initiative comes as Hong Kong recorded 51 new exchange-traded fund (ETF) launches in the first nine months, surpassing the 47 launches recorded for the whole of 2025, according to Morningstar's Hong Kong ETF Flows Q3 2026 report.
