Welfare cases in Hong Kong down 0.2%

Total caseload stood at 264,842.

In a report, the Social Welfare Department said that the overall Comprehensive Social Security Assistance caseload in August fell by 596 cases, a 0.2% drop compared with July.

The total caseload at the end of August stood at 264,842, with 409,221 recipients.

Unemployment cases and low-earnings cases fell 1.2% and 0.7% to 22,294 cases and 9,445 cases.

Single-parent cases and old-age cases decreased 0.6% and 0.1% to 30,176 cases and 152,077 cases.

Ill-health cases and permanent-disability cases registered slight increases of 0.3% and 0.4% to 25,236 cases and 18,520 cases.
