Hong Kong sees high use of personal AI tools in workplaces

Experts warned this endangers company data security.

Eight in 10 knowledge workers in Hong Kong use generative AI at work, higher than the global (75%) and APAC averages (83%).

Data from Microsoft and LinkedIn showed that, whilst 85% of leaders believe AI adoption is crucial for staying competitive, 66% worry their leadership lacks a clear implementation plan, prompting employees to take the initiative.

In Hong Kong, six in 10 AI users bring their tools to work, missing out on the benefits of strategic AI adoption and risking company data security.

Meanwhile, the study also found that 77% of leaders (71% globally) prefer a less experienced candidate with AI skills over a more experienced candidate without them.

In 2023, there was a 142-fold increase in members globally adding AI skills like ChatGPT and Copilot to their LinkedIn profiles, and AI mentions in LinkedIn job posts have driven a 17% increase in application growth.

The report also revealed that 85% of AI power users use AI to start their day, and 83% use it to prepare for the following day.

In addition, 23% of AI power users in Hong Kong have likely heard from their CEO about the importance of using generative AI at work, whilst 14% have likely received tailored AI training for their specific role or function.
