High-paying jobs open in cybersecurity and mobile development

Developers skilled in UI/UX/HTML/CSS can earn as much as $840,000 yearly.

As a growing number of businesses move to expand their online and mobile presence, demand for digital technology talent is fast outpacing the number of available candidates in Hong Kong’s job market, pushing salaries up in cybersecurity and mobile development for 2018, according to Hays Asia Salary Guide. 

This comes as Hong Kong recently required companies to have a certain number of cyber security professionals in their firms last year, with candidates holding a CISA or CISSP qualification poised to be the most sought-after. 

Junior to mid-level mobile developers are also in hot demand but recruiters are looking for those with specialised coding skills which includes full stack and mobile experience in the programming languages of Swift, Objective C and those with React JS capability. 

“Candidates with a strong eye for design, plus the technical ability to code using front end languages such as JavaScript, Angular, React are in particularly high demand,” the report noted, as web designers can expect as much as $420,000 yearly and front-end developers can look forward to $480,000 a year. 

There is also a gap in the market for candidates who are well-versed in using HTML5, CSS and in creating visually appealing layouts for apps and websites with recruiters touting these rare talents as “unicorns.” Hays notes that these unicorns can expect as much as $840,000 yearly as businesses scramble to acquire top digital talent to expand their online and mobile footprint.
