Gov't to widen scope of eligible civil service job applicants

Departments would also consider undergraduates in expanding their pool of candidates.

The city government would expand the range of eligible applicants for civil service jobs that require at least an undergraduate degree.

Aside from graduating students and applicants who already obtained the qualifications, government departments would also consider undergraduates or postgraduate students when they want to expand their pool of candidates eligible for the job.

The departments will depend on their labour and operational resources before expanding their pool of applicants.

If selected, candidates will receive conditional job offers and join the civil service after graduating as long as they complete their academic qualifications.

The city's Civil Service Bureau would adjust the arrangements for civil service recruitment examinations in light of the initiative.

Civil Service Secretary Ingrid Yeung said the expansion would encourage people to join the civil service and attract those to serve the community.

"This initiative is not to snatch people from the private sector, but to give certainty to those university undergraduates who, before their final year, have already chosen to be in the civil service," Yeung said.
