Gov’t increases pay for helpers by 3%

The new minimum wage and food allowance will apply to all contracts signed from 30 September.

The minimum allowable wage for foreign domestic helpers will increase by 3%, jumping from $4,730 to $4,870 per month.

Food allowances for foreign domestic helpers will also increase by $40 to at least $1,236 per month. 

The new minimum wage and food allowance will apply to all contracts signed from 30 September.

Contracts signed before the pay rise will still be processed by the Immigration Department provided that the applications reach the department on or before October 27.
