Contractors suspended from bidding over fatal industrial incident
Safety audit and relevant measures will be carried out by the stakeholders involved.
Due to a fatal industrial incident on 27 July in the Southern District, contractors and a subcontractor for a public works construction site were suspended from bidding in public works with immediate effect, said the Development Bureau.
The suspension not only limits future tenders, but also applies to tenders initiated but not ended.
The Labour Department is investigating the industrial incident and will handle it in accordance with the law.
The bureau has ordered contractors and a subcontractor to conduct an independent safety audit and submit safety management measures based on the results.
Once these measures are implemented and proven effective, the suspension will be considered for lifting.
The contractors involved were listed as approved for public works, whilst the subcontractor was also on the list of approved suppliers for public works.
Further regulating actions include extending the suspension period or removal from the lists may be conducted based on the results of the Labour Department’s investigations.
