Visitor numbers jump 40% over holidays
The New Year visitor peak coincided with Mainland’s three-day holiday.
The region received approximately 950,000 visitors over the New Year holidays, representing a 40% increase from last year, the interdepartmental working group on festival arrangements said in a press release.
Visitors from the Mainland accounted for over 740,000 visitors, a 48% year-on-year increase, which peaked at 220,000 on 1 January. Non-Mainland visitors reached 210,000, a 19% rise.
Chief Secretary Chan Kwok-ki, head of the working group, noted that the New Year's Eve and New Year holidays coincided with a three-day New Year public holiday on the Mainland.
