
Inbound travel surges 65% YoY in 2024: Klook
Japan is the top source of inbound travel to Hong Kong.
Klook reported a 65% year-on-year (YoY) surge in inbound travel to Hong Kong in 2024.
Japan was the top source of inbound travel, rising 215% YoY. Other key markets included the Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, Mainland China, and Singapore, with increases of up to 110%.
Meanwhile, emerging markets such as America and India contributed to a 155% growth.
Klook’s user base in Hong Kong also expanded, with one in two locals now utilizing the platform.
For outbound travel, Japan remained one of the top destinations, with a 30% YoY increase. Hong Kongers are also looking beyond Asia, with Europe, the Americas, and Australia recording a 60% YoY growth.
The Middle East and Vietnam have emerged as rising destinations, up 90% YoY. Mainland China saw up to 62% growth, ranking among the top three destinations in booking growth for Hong Kongers, driven by extensive transport options like the high-speed railway.
Klook’s Travel Pulse Report 2025 revealed that 52% of Hong Kongers seek an escape from daily monotony, 47% aim to combat work burnout, and 44% desire a fresh perspective.
The interest in travel therapy is also growing, with 92% of travelers experiencing post-travel blues and 40% immediately planning their next getaway.
Notably, 89% of Hong Kong travelers are preparing for at least one international trip in 2025, with Japan topping their wish list. Beyond Asia, Hong Kongers are setting their sights on Northern Europe (e.g., Sweden, Norway), Australia, and the United Kingdom.
