11 million travelers expected for Easter and Ching Ming Festival

Peak traffic days are predicted to be 29 March and 1 April.

The Immigration Department of Hong Kong is anticipating an estimated 11 million passengers to pass through the region’s sea, land, and air control points during the upcoming Easter and Ching Ming festive period from 28 March to 7 April.

In collaboration with the Shenzhen General Station of Exit and Entry Frontier Inspection, the department expects around 9.5 million passengers to use land boundary control points.

Peak traffic days are predicted to be 29 March and 1 April, with approximately 601,000 and 589,000 passengers, respectively.

Specifically, the passenger traffic at the Lo Wu Control Point is forecasted to reach a daily average of about 207,000 passengers, whilst the Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Control Point and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Control Point can expect approximately 169,000 and 143,000 passengers, respectively.

To manage the influx, the department is minimizing leave for frontline officers and deploying additional security guards for crowd control.

A joint command center at the Lo Wu Control Point, involving police, customs, and the Mass Transit Railway Corporation, will monitor traffic closely and coordinate with mainland authorities.

Travellers are urged to plan ahead and avoid peak times.
