Tuen Mun Hospital opens neuroscience centre for integrated treatment
This is Hong Kong’s first focused ultrasound unit.
Tuen Mun Hospital has opened its neuroscience centre, providing integrated treatment and rehabilitation for patients with neurological diseases.
The Hospital Authority said the centre introduces Hong Kong’s first magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound and intraoperative MRI services, expanding treatment options and improving patient outcomes.
Secretary for Health Professor Lo Chung-mau said the centre brings hope to patients with acute stroke and dyskinesia.
The centre’s programme floor concept brings operating theatres, wards, and day services together to enhance multidisciplinary collaboration and reduce travel between departments.
Plans are underway for an integrated rehabilitation centre to provide continuous multidisciplinary care from acute treatment to rehabilitation, improving patients’ self-care abilities and supporting their return to the community.
The centre also plans to strengthen research collaboration with institutions to develop innovative and effective treatments for neurological diseases.
The centre began phased service launches in late 2024, following its proposal in the Chief Executive’s 2022 Policy Address.
