HKUST submits 2026–2030 staffing plan for new medical school
University prioritises clinical faculty recruitment ahead of its 2028 student intake.
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has submitted a staffing plan covering academic and administrative positions from 2026 to 2030 as it accelerates recruitment for its new medical school.
The government said the university is prioritising the recruitment of clinical faculty members in key departments ahead of its planned first student intake in the 2028/29 academic year.
HKUST has also proposed a curriculum framework for its four-year graduate-entry medical programme, covering precision medicine, artificial intelligence, medical ethics, and clinical training.
The university will use Kai Tak Hospital as its interim teaching hospital, with the university and Hospital Authority finalising arrangements for clinical teaching and research support.
It will also utilise its Medical Education and Research Complex at the Clear Water Bay campus as its primary teaching and research facility until the permanent campus is completed.
Construction of the complex began in April and is nearing topping out, with completion expected in 2028.
