First Chinese Medicine Hospital begins services in Hong Kong

Government-subsidised outpatient appointments will be increased.

The Chinese Medicine Hospital of Hong Kong has started offering outpatient and day-patient services as part of a phased launch of its operations.

Appointments for government-subsidised outpatient services will also be increased in response to high public demand, according to Secretary for Health Lo Chung-mau.

Lo said the service quota for the first 10 days of operation has been doubled. For the remaining days of the first month, the service quota has been increased by a further 30%.

He added that patients can also make appointments to attend the non-subsidised outpatient clinic, where they can select their preferred Chinese Medicine practitioners.

In its first year of operation, the hospital will fully roll out specialised services in six areas, including internal medicine, external medicine, gynaecology, paediatrics, orthopaedics and traumatology, and acupuncture and moxibustion.

The hospital will also introduce 12 special disease programmes, including initiatives focused on elderly degenerative diseases and stroke rehabilitation.
