Over 1 in 10 Hongkongers replace meals with snacks: report

This trend is due to changing dietary preferences and consumer purchases.

In Hong Kong, over 1 in 10 adult residents replaced their daily meals with snacks in 2024, Euromonitor International reported.

This represents an increase of 10.8% year-on-year (YoY), the highest increase amongst Euromonitor’s global report findings.

According to Euromonitor, this increase was due to a significant shift in consumer behaviour and changing dietary preferences.

“Consumers have been under unprecedented stress these past few years with the cost-of-living crisis among a number of other challenges. Snacks have been leveraged for comfort and stress reduction by providing consumers entertainment at gatherings, joy as affordable gifts or presents, and pleasure as self-treats or rewards,’ Carl Quash III, head of snacks at Euromonitor International said.
