StanChart HK, Sintali-SGS partner to boost EDGE green building standard
The EDGE certification provides a path for buildings to achieve carbon neutrality.
Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited has signed an agreement with SGS and Sintali to further promote green building certification programme, EDGE.
The EDGE green building certification programme provides a guide for buildings to achieve carbon neutrality from at least 20% savings in energy, water and embodied energy in materials.
“This Memorandum of Understanding signed by SCBHK will benefit clients across Standard Chartered’s global footprint, demonstrating the important role of Hong Kong as an international green finance hub,” Mary Huen, CEO, Hong Kong, Standard Chartered, said.
“By certifying our office premises with EDGE, we hope to take the lead and encourage more corporates to participate in green building certification and contribute to Hong Kong’s transition towards carbon neutrality by 2050.”
She noted Standard Chartered is the first international bank to sign an agreement with Sintali-SGS to promote the programme, launched by the International Finance Corporation (IFC). The IFC is a member of the World Bank Group.
The bank has been actively growing its sustainable finance team and developing innovative sustainable finance solutions for clients.
In June, Standard Chartered provided a green loan to Schroders Capital Real Estate and BentallGreenOak for acquiring a property project in Tsuen Wan, and helped register the project for EDGE, as the first property participating in the certification in Hong Kong.
