MoneySmart customers in Singapore, Hong Kong hit by data breach
The company discovered and stopped the unauthorised access on 29 October.
MoneySmart has confirmed a data breach affecting some customers in Singapore and Hong Kong after an unauthorised third party accessed its internal IT systems and copied personal data.
In a statement on 3 November, the financial comparison platform said it discovered the incident on 29 October and subsequently stopped the unauthorised access.
MoneySmart reported the incident to relevant authorities and engaged independent cybersecurity and forensic experts to investigate further.
"MoneySmart continues to operate as normal, and we are committed to supporting our customers," said CEO Vinod Nair.
Nair also advised customers to be cautious of unexpected calls, emails or messages claiming to be from MoneySmart, stressing that it would never request passwords, one-time passwords or banking details over the phone or email.
