HKMA, HKAB anti-scam initiative strengthens with more sectors joining efforts

Over 200 financial institutions and merchants have partaken in the new charter.

The Anti-Scam Consumer Protection Charter 2.0 (Charter 2.0) by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) and the Hong Kong Association of Banks (HKAB) has expanded its scope through the participation of more institutions and merchants in various sectors.

The new charter, which aims to safeguard the public’s data against scams and phishing, has garnered participation from over 200 financial institutions and merchants since its launch.

These institutions come from banking, insurance, securities and future industries, food and beverage, and retail sectors.

As a show of support, the institutions have committed to avoid sending customers instant electronic messages with embedded hyperlinks or requesting key personal data.

Key personal data include information about personal investment, bank, credit card, insurance, and mandatory provident fund (MPF) accounts.

In addition, those participating have pledged to provide their contact information through proper channels for enquiries and to promote anti-scam messages.
