Company registrations hit record 1.49 million
A total 1.49 million local and 15,509 non-local company registrations were recorded in Hong Kong.
A total of 84,293 local companies registered in the first half, bringing the total number of local companies registered under the Companies Ordinance to a record high of 1.49 million, according to the statistics released by the Companies Registry on Friday.
With 761 non-local companies registered in H1 2025, the total non-local companies in Hong Kong also reached a record high of 15,509.
For limited partnership funds (LPFs), the number of new registrations in H1 2025 was 116, adding the total number to 1,099.
For open-ended fund companies (OFCs), 109 new registrations were made in H1 2025, with a total number reaching 579.
The registry granted 350 new licenses to trust or company service providers and 71 new licenses to money lenders.
The number of charges on properties of companies received for registration in the first half of 2025 was 5,970. The number of notifications of payments and releases received for registration in the same period was 9,915.
Two Companies Ordinance improvements were made in H1 2025, including allowing local listed companies to hold repurchased shares in the treasury and dispose of them, as well as providing a simple and cost-effective way for non-local companies to re-domicile to Hong Kong whilst maintaining their legal identity and business continuity.
