HKMA alerts consumers of bogus bank apps

It was regarding a fraudulent mobile app linked to Wing Lung Bank.

The Monetary Authority has issued an alert on bogus Internet banking mobile applications purporting to be issued by Wing Lung Bank.

Earlier, Wing Lung alerted the public and customers regarding a mobile application, Mobogenie, saying the app can download a fraudulent mobile application of the Bank.

"The Bank hereby declares that the Bank did not have any connection with this mobile application. This mobile application is not established by the Bank. Please do not download, browse or log-in this mobile application.," Wing Lung noted.

It added, "The Bank suggests customers to take appropriate measures for ensuring relevant mobile application of the Bank is visited. Customer should search “Wing Lung Bank” at App Store or Google Play or go to Wing Lung Bank’s website (www.winglungbank.com) to download the Bank’s official “WLB Wintech mobile application," the bank explained.

Meanwhile, HKMA said anyone who has provided information through the apps or conducted financial transactions through them should contact the authorities.
