Link completes HK’s largest private solar generation facility
This covers 53 properties.
Link Asset Management Limited (Link) has completed its solar power project, which is projected to generate approximately 4.2 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity annually.
In a statement, the manager of Link Real Estate Investment Trust said the project spans 53 properties with 58 solar power systems that exceed a total installed capacity of 4,500 kilowatt-peak (kWp). Its generation capacity is equivalent to the consumption of 1,273 three-member households per year.
Following this development, Link said it is now one of the largest private solar power system operators in Hong Kong.
Link invested around $78m in the solar energy generation project. The renewable energy generated by Link’s solar power systems accounts for 3% of Link’s total power usage each year in Hong Kong.
“The initiative, which has an expected return-on-investment of almost 20%, is also helping to enhance our operational efficiency,” said Link Group Chief Executive Officer George Hongchoy.
To fuel its expansion, Link said it will utilise light counter-weighted or flexible solar modules on the rooftops of 19 Link properties. Upon completion of the second phase, total installed capacity for the programme will reach around 6,900 kWp with more than 12,000 solar panels installed at 58 properties.
