Government to launch new hydrogen certification system
It will align the region with Mainland China and international markets.
Hong Kong is creating a new hydrogen standard certification system to align Hong Kong with mainland China and international markets, Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po said during the 2026-27 Budget Speech.
The government is consulting industry stakeholders on a framework under the Strategy of Hydrogen Development in Hong Kong.
Hydrogen Week will be held in May to promote international exchange, including visits to the Mainland for overseas experts to observe hydrogen applications.
Total injections into the Green Tech Fund reach $400m, supporting hydrogen fuel production and storage projects, as well as waste-to-resource technologies.
Chan noted that a university research team has promoted industrial wastewater treatment technology to the Greater Bay Area and Yangtze River Delta, whilst another team plans a partnership with a hydrogen fuel cell enterprise to advance fuel cell stack technology.
