CIC launches digital twin hub to boost construction efficiency

It will help industry stakeholders to understand the digital twin technology concept and application.

The Construction Industry Council (CIC) has launched the CIC Digital Twin Hub to enhance productivity and efficiency in the construction industry through digital technologies.

CIC Industry Development Director Alex Ho emphasised the council's commitment to embracing digitalisation. "We established the hub to enable industry stakeholders to grasp the concept and practical applications of digital twin technology," Ho stated.

“We can collect different technologies related to digital twin as well as collect different projects that adopt digital twin to showcase and introduce to the industry practitioners,” he said.

“When they come over, they can really understand this technology as well as know how the project really used it, so that they can know the benefit of using this kind of digital twin technology,” Ho added.

Digital twin technology provides a virtual representation of physical objects, systems, or processes, significantly enhancing project management, resource efficiency, and risk reduction in the construction sector.

The CIC Digital Twin Hub serves as a collaborative platform, featuring cutting-edge technologies to foster knowledge exchange and promote the adoption of digital twin concepts and applications. It includes four key areas, namely the Showcase Area, Multi-Purpose Area, Digital Twin Lab, and the Smart Site Construction Management Corner. These sections display innovative equipment designed to enhance the Smart Site Safety System.

“We have different kinds of smart helmets and smart watches, so that we can locate workers in different zones or areas. The smart helmet may come with a temperature sensor or heart rate sensor so that we can know the situation of that worker,” said Ho.

“If there is any abnormality, they will send a signal to the central monitoring platform as well, so that we can take special care of that specific worker,” he continued.

The hub, Since its launch in Kowloon Bay in July 2023, has conducted numerous activities such as experience sharing sessions, guided tours, and advisory workshops.

Over the past 10 months, approximately 150 group tours have welcomed around 5,000 visitors, including industry professionals, government officials, and students.
