Indonesia’s Tigerair Mandala opens direct flights to Hong Kong
Jakarta to Hong Kong route is airline’s longest and farthest.
The low-cost airline will have four weekly flights from Jakarta to Hong Kong and three weekly flights from Hong Kong to Jakarta.
According to the Hong Kong Tourism Board, the number of Indonesian travelers to Hong Kong reached 521,000 people in 2012, a 15% increase compared to 2011.
Tigerair Mandala operates nine new Airbus A320s that fly 46 flights per day. Its inaugural flight to Hong Kong from Indonesia took place on July 24.
In July, Tigerair Mandala, formerly known as Mandala Airlines, officially renamed itself in line with Tiger Airways’ re-branding as Tigerair.
The airline's main shareholder is investment company Saratoga Capital. Tigerair controls a 33% stake in the carrier.
